Brockenhurst WI held its annual meeting this month, electing its new committee and President, with thanks and certificates being awarded to past officers and others who run groups and help at the many fund-raising events.
Recently the WI provided all the refreshments at the two-day Needlework Fiesta and thanks were given to all those who made cakes or helped at the event.
Following on from April’s talk about IT , PCSO Richard Williams came to the May meeting to highlight fraud scams prevalent in this area – quite eye-opening – 50% of all crime investigated now is related to these horrifying operations.
Richard told us about a booklet produced by the Met Police called ‘The Little Book of Big Scams’. You can view it here.
Our Competition of the Month in aid of ACWW was ‘an unusual/interesting pebble or shell’ and this was won by Issy.

Issy was also the winner of the annual overall Competition of the Month winner with the most winning entries in the past year.

We had a raffle, refreshments and a bumper raffle.

The beautiful table flowers were provided by Rita.

Planning is under way for the New Forest Show entries (you can see the schedule here) and a Litter Pick at Whitemoor took as part of a Million Acts of Hope. The regular craft, bandage-making, quilting, cross stitch groups, darts and monthly lunches continue – now joined by a new knitting group held on alternate Mondays. The Brockenhurst Carnival, Brockival is also on our minds for future planning.
Coming up in June is the group Quiz, a talk about Bees in the garden and a croquet evening. New President Rose will be busy taking over the branch activities after Julie Wootten has stepped down from this role.
Guests and prospective new members are welcome to come along and find out more on Monday 8th June from 7pm in the Brockenhurst Hub. Please contact us for more information.
Thanks got to Suzanne for writing the above and Jayne for the photos.
