Monday 8th June was Brockenhurst WI’s Monthly Meeting and Rose’s first meeting as President. Rose asked for suggestions and ideas from members as it is all our WI.
Our speaker was Alan Baxter and he talked to us about ‘The amazing world of bees in our gardens’.
Alan has kept bees for a number of years. He is studying for a Masters in Bee Keeping and is also a Master Bee Keeper. He does a lot of teaching and eduction work about bees and belongs to the Fareham and District Bee Keepers Association.
We learnt a host of information including about the history of bees through the ages, the many types of bees, bee anatomy, hive hierarchy, swarms, to name but a few.

The ‘Competition of the Month’ was ‘a single rose in a jar/bottle’. We had a beautiful display of roses, some with exquisite perfume too. Unfortunately, we haven’t got a photo of these beauties.
This was won by Liz with her beautiful rose.
We had a raffle run by Maureen and Suzanne.
The beautiful table flowers were arranged by Karen.
The regular craft, bandage-making, quilting, cross stitch groups, darts and monthly lunches continue – now joined by a new knitting group held on alternate Mondays. The Brockenhurst Carnival, Brockival is also on our minds for future planning.
Coming up in June is the group Quiz, croquet evening.
Our next meeting is on Monday 13th July. It is a craft evening, The ‘Competition of the Month’ is ‘an unusual/interesting biscuit tin’. At Brockenhurst Village Hall – arrival from 7pm for a 7.30pm start.Guests and prospective new members are welcome to come along and find out more. Please contact us for more information.
