March Round-Up 2024

Our monthly meeting was a little unusual, when the speaker didn’t turn up. But the evening was rescued by Jackie who gave us a very interesting talk about her Girl Guide trip to Annapurna in Nepal. Read more here.

The Lunch Club visited The Huntsman in Brockenhurst. Seven ladies attended and it was a pleasant get together.

The Darts team have continued to practice on Thursday mornings at The Foresters Arms in preparation for the next tournament.

Lindy hosted the first Craft Group session of the month and was attended by nine members to make card/paper angels.  Lindy demonstrated the technique, with templates, in three sizes, and gave us different pretty papers and foils to use for the angels.  We had some difficulty in getting their heads and hair to stay on, but they all looked lovely when we had finished!  This was a fairly simple technique which yielded quite impressive results, and something we though might be useful if we sold Christmas decorations at the village event in December.

Julie hosted the second session of the month and demonstrated making Dorset Apple cake. The best part was eating it afterwards!

Kim has hosted her Appliqué group, expertly teaching us how to Appliqué. As well as learning new technique’s, we also enjoy a laugh and Kim’s excellent cake.

Julie lead a walk and despite rain all morning and big black clouds at the start, the weather gods were kind to us this time and we managed to stay dry, despite the forest being very wet. Birdsong and activities were in evidence and we enjoyed watching a Goldcrest flitting about.

Rita and her team have continued with Bandage Making for Ukraine on Wednesday mornings from 10-12 noon at Rita’s house. All welcome to come along and help on future Wednesdays. Rita also welcomes help from those who can’t attend the bandage making sessions, but can help in their own homes. Rita is especially in need of people with sewing machines to do some simple machine sewing. Please contact us for more details and location or speak to Rita at our monthly meeting.

Evelyn and Maureen attended the Spring Council meeting. You can read about it here.

Vicky, Lindy and Julie represented Brockenhurst WI at the Greener Brockenhurst Community Litter Pick as part of our commitment to Plastic Free Brockenhurst.

We look forward to our April activities!
