November Bandage Making

Members from Brockenhurst WI have continued to work hard making bandages for Ukraine.

Carole hosted the first session of the month and triangular bandages were prioritised as these are needed for trauma packs.

The second session was held at Julie’s house.

Evelyn hosted the 3rd session of the month.

Julie hosted the last two sessions of the month and we worked on using up the remaining sheet that we had.

New Forest for Ukraine have had thanks for Ukraine soldiers on the frontline, giving thank for the bandages and saying how they are being used and much needed. So big thanks go to everyone for this great team effort.

We are having a break from bandage making in December. New Forest for Ukraine are stopping making trauma packs as it is an all-consuming activity that takes time and resources.

We will make a decision in the New Year as to whether we continue making rolled bandages/triangular bandages. Our members have felt useful that we can help and support Ukraine by making bandages. They have also enjoyed getting together whilst doing something worthwhile.

In the meantime, we can continue to support Ukraine through donating much needed items to get Ukrainians through the winter. The following donations are urgently required:

Donations can be taken to Industrial Heaters in Brookley Road, Setley Ridge Farm Shop or the hub in Ampress Park, Lymington. Julie is also happy to deliver donations, so please bring items to WI meetings.

Janice is still spearheading her ‘Hats Off for Ukraine’ appeal, asking members to make/donate warm hats, scarfs, gloves socks etc. So please bring items to WI meetings.

We wish to thank each and every member who have helped with every aspect of bandage making, whether it be donating sheets, measuring, ripping, sewing, rolling, packing, pinning safety pins to strips of paper, delivering and even bring biscuits to keep us going. Without such amazing teamwork, we would not have been able to achieve what we have.

  1. What a huge, compassionate response our WI have made towards helping Ukraine overcome their oppressors. It’s an honour to say I’m a member of Brockenhurst WI. A big ‘hats off’ Jo Julie and the bandage making team.
