44 members attended the April meeting of Brockenhurst WI, on Monday 8th April, 7.30pm at the Village Hall.
A brief report was given by the president, Janette Smethurst, on the Spring Council Meeting held in Portsmouth that 14 members had attended. It was a very enjoyable day, with winning acts from the talent competition performing in the morning, and in the afternoon Pam Ayres did an excellent job of entertaining everyone.
This month’s guest speaker was Ron Taylor, who gave a very interesting talk on the Dorset River Stour, its history over the years and the many places of interest along its route from the source at Stourhead National Trust in Wiltshire to Stanpit Marsh, Christchurch where it enters the English Channel.
Birthday posies were given out to Sue Garrod, Sue Clark and Bernice Tongue.
The flower of the month competition was won by Maureen Phillips.
The meeting ended with the raffle and members enjoying a cup of tea or coffee, served by Valerie Letley and Jean Colton.
Brockenhurst WI will be providing refreshments – sandwiches, homemade cakes, tea & coffee – at the Brockenhurst Needlework Fiesta 27th/28th April.
The next meeting will be on Monday 13th May 2019, in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. This will be the AGM, but we still have a guest speaker, Andy Broadhurst who will be talking to us about Swifts. As always, prospective members and visitors will be warmly welcomed.
