October Activities

Here is a round-up of our forthcoming activities for October:

On Monday 10th October we have our monthly meeting upstairs at Brockenhurst Village Hall.  The speaker is Mrs E Barron MBE and the talk is entitles “in Grandpa’s Footsteps”.

Janice will have a table for anyone who has kindly donated knitted hats for her ‘Hats Off for Ukraine’ campaign.  She will then deliver them to new Forest for Ukraine who will ship them out to Ukraine.

We are asking for help on meeting nights – we need a few members who would be willing to welcome new guests once they have registered with Janice, on the night of the meeting.  Perhaps they could sit with you during the evening talk.  Last month we had four guests but some months none!  If you are happy to volunteer can you tell Janice or email us.  Thank you.

The competition of the month will be (apologies for short notice) a Christmas tree ornament or decoration to hang, place or wrap around a Christmas tree.  This can be knitted, crochet, cones decorated, items made from recycled materials ….  suggested size: no more than 12.5 cm or 5 inches.

Here are some ideas:

Walk

The October walk will be on Thursday 13th October at 2pm starting at Beechern Wood Car Park, just off the Rhinefield Road.

We will walk for one to two mile miles and will walk at gentle pace to suit all.

The paths can be wet or muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear for all eventualities.

There will be a sign-up sheet at Monday’s meeting, or please contact us if you won’t be at the meeting but would still like to attend.

There will also be a sheet for you to tick to show when is the best time for those who like to walk. Then Julie will try and find the best times for the majority to organise the walks.

Please contact us with any questions or if you sign up but then can’t make it on the day.

Thank you.

Bandage Making

Brockenhurst WI have received special thanks from New Forest for Ukraine for our help with the bandage making for Ukraine.  So far in total 2000 trauma packs with 2 triangular bandages in each pack  have been sent to Ukraine by New Forest for Ukraine.

Sadly, bandages are still very much needed in Ukraine, so we are continuing to make them.

We have planned out bandage making sessions for October and there are as follows:

  • Wednesday 5th October 10am-12 noon – to be held at Evelyn’s house
  • Wednesday 12th October 10am-12 noon – to be held at Julie’s house
  • Wednesday 19th October 10am-12 noon – to be held at Carole’s house
  • Wednesday 26th October 10am-12 noon – to be held at Rita’s house.

Please contact us for more details and location (or see Elaine’s email of 5th October)

Please also let us know if you are coming to any of these sessions.

If you cannot make these dates but would like to help, there are jobs that can be done in your own home, so please do contact us and we will get the supplies and instructions to you.

Thank you to each and everyone who has helped with bandage making.
