Brockenhurst WI celebrated its 100th birthday with a fabulous evening at The Balmer Lawn Hotel. 70 members and guests attended and were treated to some close up magic, a delicious meal and a wonderful cake made by one of our members, Liz Wingham. We were delighted to welcome 4 presidents from the Brockenhurst WI group, also Maureen Levenson who is Chairman of Hampshire County Federation.
A saxophonist, Graeme Budd, supplied us with some background music during the meal and accompanied us when we sang a rousing Jerusalem and, of course, Happy Birthday. A record number of members shared the WIs’ birthday this month and 13 of them were presented with a birthday posy, with one celebrating her 70th that day.
Prizes had been kindly donated by local businesses and to claim these, gold stars had been fixed randomly underneath chairs. Never have 70 chairs been upturned so quickly to retrieve the treasure!
One of our members, Rosemary Pope, presented a beautiful embroidery that she had completed to celebrate 100 years of Brockenhurst WI. This will hopefully hang in pride of place in our meeting room for all to enjoy.
The whole evening was a roaring success and thanks go to Louise Parker and her team of WI ladies who organised a wonderful event to mark the occasion. Here’s to the next 100!
Our next meeting will be on Monday 12th March at 7.30pm in the village hall where we will be hearing about the life of Joyce Grenfell.
