June Round -Up

June started with the Railway 200 Celebrations at the Railway Station on Sunday 1st June, where we had a stall showcasing the role that Brockenhurst WI played in the Hampshire Rural Pie Scheme during WW2. We had a display and also gave out free fruit pies. We were also recruiting prospective new members and giving out our new flyer. Thanks go to all our members who made pies, donated plants and helped on the day.

Julie hosted a Watch Party for the NFWI Annual Meeting. ‘Bystanders can be lifesavers’ was voted in as our campaign for 2025-2026. Rose will be updating us all about this soon.

At our meeting, we had speaker Emma Toomey who talked to us about her experiences “Working as a mounted police officer in London. You can read more about the meeting and talk here.

Karen organised a Croquet evening at Lymington Croquet Club on a beautiful summer’s evening. We were briefly tutored before taking part in a tournament. At the end, it was a tie between Tricia and Janette and Britta and Corinne, so a playoff was held. Tricia pulled a fantastic long range shot out of the bag making Janette and Tricia the winners! We ended the evening with a picnic and a chat. Thanks go to Lymington Croquet Club for allowing us to use their facilities.

Janette and the Darts team continue to practice on Thursday mornings at the Foresters Arms at 11am. New members always welcome.

Rita is still leading a team of bandage makers, who meet Wednesday mornings between 10-12 noon. Rita also take knitted items in to the Hub in Lymington and welcomes lightweight small jackets and cardigans for babies as well as bootees, mittens and hats are also appreciated. New Forest for Ukraine also require candles as well all the other things like medical aids, tinned/packet food and hygiene. items. So please ask Rita for more information.

Rose lead a Walk starting at Beechern Wood car park.

Christine organised a lunch at The Smugglers in Milford on Sea. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful and tasty lunches served by very pleasant staff. As the photos show, lots of smiling faces. It was a lovely get together.

We ended the month by having a stall at the PTA Fete to help with their fundraising. As well as recruiting, by request, we also did our Human Fruit Machine that was a hit with all ages! We had fun doing it and we raised £65 for the PTA funds too. Grateful thanks go to those who helped on the day and to Caroline for making/sourcing the toys we used.
