October starts off with some workshops for making Christmas Tree Decorations for the Christmas Tree at St Saviours Church. The theme of our tree is WI Campaigns. Liz will be leading workshops to make beaded icicles on Tuesday 1st, Jayne will be leading a star making workshop on Wednesday 2nd, Lindy will be teaching the Craft Group to make paper fish on 11th and Christine and Julie will lead a workshops making blood droplets on 21st October. Our October monthly meeting is on Monday October 14th with speaker Jane Glennie -“The Experimental Housekeeping of Jane Austen’s good friend Martha Lloyd”. At Brockenhurst Village Hall – arrival from 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Guests and visitors are welcome to attend.
The competition of the month in aid of ACWW will be a recycled item made into a Christmas tree decoration which must be able to hang on a tree. We look forward to seeing what you come up with. Members vote using a silver coin for their favourite flower. The item with the most coins is the winner. The money is sent to our charity ACWW.
There will also be a raffle and sign-up sheets for upcoming activities We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
The Craft Group will be running a session on Friday 11th October from 2-4pm at Lindy’s house. We will be making paper fish Christmas Tree at St Saviours Church.

Lunch Club: Christine has booked lunch at The Hare and Hounds in Sway on Monday 28th October at 12.30. A sign-up sheet available at Monday’s meeting or contact us for more information.

Julie will be leading the next walk and meet up on starting at 2pm on Wednesday 23rd October . Meet at Beechern Wood car park off the Rhinefield Road, Brockenhurst. Please sign up at Monday’s meeting and provide your contact details in case of last minute change of plans. Do contact us if you’d like to come along so we know to expect you. The forest can be wet/muddy, so please wear suitable footwear.

Rita is continuing with Bandage Making for Ukraine on Wednesday mornings from 10-12 noon at Rita’s house. All welcome to come along and help. Rita also welcomes help from those who can’t attend the bandage making sessions, but can help in their own homes. Rita is especially in need of people with sewing machines to do some simple machine sewing.Please contact us for more details and location or speak to Rita at Monday’s meeting.
The Darts team continue to practice most Thursdays at 11am at the Foresters Arms, Brookley Road, Brockenhurst. All welcome to join in. Please contact us for more details.
Forthcoming Activities
Brockenhurst Group Show is being held on Saturday 30th November 2024 between 10-15.00 at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, New Milton. Schedules are now available for those who would like to take part. There are a wide range of categories – something for everyone and we really hope you are inspired to give it a go! Brockenhurst WI have been runners up for the past two shows, lets see if we can do even better this year! The schedule can be found here.
To help you with your entries, we are putting on some workshops and information sessions. There will be sign-up sheets at Monday’s meeting:
- Julie will be running an ideas session that will cover the Decorated Victoria Sandwich and Yule Log on Tuesday 22nd October at 2pm
- Liz will be running Lebkuchen making workshops on Tuesday 29th October at 4.00 and/or 18.30 – 20.00 on 29/10/24. Max group of 4.
- Kim will be running a ‘Sew an Apron to be worn on Christmas Day’ workshop on Friday 1st November 14.00-16.00
- Karen Whitty will be running a Christmas floral session -on the afternoon of Tuesday 5th November. more details to follow.
- Kim will be running a ‘Scandi Gnome’ workshop on Thursday 14th November from 10.00 – 16.00
Kim and Julie are very willing to answer any questions or queries that you may have about any of the Group Show classes, so do contact us and your question/query will be passed on.
At the Group Show it is Brockenhurst WI’s turn to provide a refreshment service – tea, coffee and cake – so we will be calling for volunteers for the event. There will be sign-up sheets at the monthly meeting, or please contact us for more details .

On Saturday 2nd November, The World Textile Day is being help at Brockenhurst Village Hall and as in previous year, Brockenhurst WI will be running the refreshments stall. We require donations of cakes and we also need volunteers on the day. There will be sign-up sheets at the monthly meeting or please contact us to volunteer.
Greener Brockenhurst and Brockenhurst WI will be holding a family-friendly walk in solidarity with the “March for Clean Water’ that is being held in London. It will be held on Sunday 3rd November, starting at 2pm. The starting point will be Meet at the Watersplash. It will be a short circular walk of approximately 30 minutes around the village to bring awareness for the need for clean water in the UK. Tea and cakes will be served afterwards. Please wear blue.
Brockenhurst Group Social Event in Sway: On Thursday 7 th November 2024, Sway WI will be offering a screening of the film “Calendar Girls” in Sway Village Hall starting at 6.45 and the film starting at 7.15. Each WI in the group is offered 25 tickets costing £10 each for their members (not £5 as stated in the email from Liz). Refreshments available during the intermission. Anyone attending is encouraged to dress in “twin set and pearls” or fuddy-duddy tweeds! More information is available via Julie.
