February Meeting 2024

Brockenhurst W I celebrated our 106th birthday at our February meeting with a fish and chip supper,  a quiz and a “Guess which fruit I am” game supplied by a member, as well as a “Name the chocolate” quiz from another member.   One game caused much hilarity, who knew it would be so difficult to identify a kiwi fruit from yes or no answers!  The other illustrated that we couldn’t tell the difference between photographs of a hazelnut and a chunk of honeycomb!

We had an excellent turnout of 48 members attended, including two new members who had visited us in January, and promptly joined. Welcome Kas and Gina.

Birthday gifts were presented to 13 members celebrating their Birthday this month.

A trophy of a glass vase was awarded to the member who had won the “Competition of the Month” the most times in the past year. Congratulations to Maureen.

In line with WI tradition, Evelyn our President presented certificates to those members who had been in the branch for ten years.

Certificates were also presented to those ladies who regularly go above and beyond for Brockenhurst WI, whether it be helping at meetings, running the reception desk, providing the essential music for Jerusalem, running the raffle or running clubs and groups such as the craft group or darts group or organising the catering for events such as the Needlework Fiesta. Thank you all.

After our supper we had the raffle.

Our long-standing member Pam raised a toast to the branch, and gave us some interesting facts about what WI members had achieved in Brockenhurst in the past, supporting activities and ventures in the village.

Our upcoming activities were run through, lunch club, a walk in the forest and craft group.  Volunteers signed up to take part in Brockenhurst’s annual Pancake Race, as well offers of cakes and helpers at the Brockenhurst Needlework Fiesta.  This event is a great place for finding materials for all textile related crafts, and one at which Brockenhurst WI provide the catering.

Our next meeting will be on the 11th March at Brockenhurst Village Hall at 7pm for 7.30, when our speaker will be giving us a talk on “Climate Change vs Sustainable Tourism” and  visitors are very welcome.  Please contact us for further information.
