In the first craft group session of October Carole set up watercolour paints and some Hydrangeas to paint.

These are some of the great creations:

In the second October session, five ladies met at Carole’s house and made a variety of embroidered felt book marks. One member also worked on her own patchwork project of paper piecing hexagons which looked quite complex to carry out, but will be very pretty when finished, and inspired some of us to be more ambitious! The rest of the group cut out and embroidered felt shapes, attaching ribbons to them to make bookmarks.

We also discussed themes for upcoming meetings. Members will be kept up to date of this, and hopefully encourage new members to come along, and just chat and have tea and a biscuit. There is no pressure to produce anything! It was a very enjoyable and social afternoon as our craft group meetings always are. Please see Carole at the next monthly WI meeting if you are interested in joining the craft group or contact us.
Brockenhurst WI members are also working on making quilt squares for the Brockenhurst area Community Quilt as part of the United for Warm Homes Day of Action on 18th November. Mel has been working especially hard, with contributions for Evelyn and Esther.

United for Warm Homes is a growing movement of community groups and activists from all walks of life campaigning for a common goal: warm homes for all. No-one should have to choose between food or a warm home and this project aims to highlight this and alternative heat sources.

Mel, Julie and Lindy attended a crafting session with Greener Brockenhurst and Eco Church to make some quilting squares and get some inspiration. It was a relaxed and sociable event and we were made to feel very welcome! We enjoyed the cuppa and cake too!

The local MP’s have been invited to the Day of Action on 18th November and Brockenhurst WI members would be very welcome to attend this event at Brockenhurst Village Hall from 10am – 12 noon.

We are still looking for volunteers to make squares for the quilt. As you can see from the photos, the 18cm squares can be decorated using any medium, including fabric pens or crayons, felt, or fabrics. The important thing is getting the message across:

If you can decorate a square for our display, please do contact us and we will send you the details.
