Brockenhurst WI members answered Hampshire WI’s plea to raise money for ACWW by doing a walk and tea in the New Forest.
We were joined by Alfie.

The Associated Country Women of the World was founded in 1929 to bring together rural women and their organisations all over the world, and in so doing address the challenges they faced as a result of the isolation of their communities, discrimination against women, and their lack of standing in political processes.
ACWW’s membership spans 82 countries, and since 1947 we have passed more than 180 policy resolutions by popular vote. The key concept behind each of these is the empowerment of rural women in all their diversity. This continues to be our driving priority.
Rural Women are the backbone of families, communities, and nations, but they suffer the worst impacts of climate change and conflict, go unheard in legislation, and remain unprotected and unsupported. So were were all very happy to support this great charity.
We set off from Wilverley Inclosure, walking through the woods enjoying the dappled shade on a hot day.

Seeing this marker, we discussed whether the term was ‘inclosure’ on ‘enclosure’! Apparently, both terms are used! New Forest Trust website says that…”Inclosures (or enclosures) are parts of the Forest that are fenced to keep out the commoners’ animals so that young trees can grow.”

We heard the calls of a Great Spotted Woodpecker, Chiffchaffs, a family of Blue Tits and heard a Wren singing. A Lizard crossed out path as did this beetle. We also saw a giant ants nest!

We walked a loop through the inclosure enjoying seeing some Foxgloves still in flower, some interesting trees, and enjoying walking together and having a chat.

As we climbed the last hill, refreshments were very much on our mind!

Elaine had kindly sat in the picnic area whilst we walked and we were pleased to have been joined for tea and cake by some other members.

£80 was raised for ACWW. The donation tin will be at our July meeting for those who couldn’t attend the walk and tea for those who wish to donate.
Julie wishes to thank Elaine, Christine K & Evelyn for their donations of cake, Moira for bringing the much needed chilled water, Kim for her supplies and for all those who supported her in the walk and tea.
