This was a packed evening with guests including Jude Vaughan, the National President of New Zealand Federation of Women’s Institutes.

This was also Evelyn’s first meeting a Brockenhurst WI President, and a great job she did too!

Our speakers at this meeting were Tony and Lizzie Gilks who talked about Jewels in the Crown. This was very topical and booked last year, long before we knew that there would be a Coronation this year!

Tony and Lizzie have given over 6000 talks since they started in 2003!

They told us some fascinating stories about how various jewels came to be in the regalia.

They have an exquisite collection of replicas of the Coronation Regalia and created a dazzling display.

We heard about the Black Prince’s ruby and how it was worn in two battles!

We learnt that the gold in the Imperial Crown reputedly dates back to Edward the Confessor.

We found out about the Cullinan Diamonds and the fascinating story behind these.

We learnt about the Bun Crown made for Queen Victoria in 1870 to wear over her widow’s cap.

It was a fascinating talk with lots learnt.

The table flowers were beautifully arranged by Moira.

There were lots of sign-up sheets for the various activities happening this month.

Our Competition of the month was a flower. This was won by Maureen, with her beautiful rose.

We had a plant sale in aid of ACWW.

We had our usual raffle run by Maureen and April.

Birthday gifts were given to the 13 Birthday girls.

Refreshments were organised by Anne P and Moira.

Our next meeting is on Monday 10th July 2023 Monthly Meeting with speaker Joanna Foat: “The Lumberjills – Britain’s Forgotten Army”. Brockenhurst Village Hall arrival from 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
